Estimated Gallons of Oil Spilled Since the BP Rig Explosion, 4/20/10

(JavaScript Error)

1,000,000 Daily Reminders

On April 20th, an offshore oil rig exploded, sunk into the Gulf of Mexico, and started pouring 20,000 to 40,000 barrels of oil a day -- that's between 840,000 and 1,680,000 gallons a day. This is a grisly reminder that the myth of clean and safe offshore oil drilling is just that, a myth.

Yet President Obama's Interior Department -- under the direction of Mr. Ken Salazar -- proposed opening up even more of our oceans and coasts for offshore oil drilling.

Please send Mr. Salazar an e-mail right now and tell him we need to protect our oceans and coasts from tragedies like the BP oil spill with a permanent ban on new offshore drilling rigs.

We're collecting photos of people in the forests they love so we can send the message to Congress: protect our wild places, don't sell them off. Right now there's a proposal to make up for budget shortfalls by selling off 800,000 of public lands. We need to make sure our elected officials know how important these places are to us.
