Good news!
General Motors announced they will no longer fund the Heartland Institute, a think tank that actively pushes propaganda in the media and schools that says global warming is an unproven theory.
The announcement comes just weeks after GM CEO Dan Ackerson said he would "look into it," after he was confronted with the company's sponsorship of the Heartland Institute during an appearance at The Commonwealth Club in San Francisco.
"This is $15,000 that was committed to before I came in. I also think the Heartland Institute, I'm told, does other things and I find this interesting. I won't go further but I'm going to take another look at it when I get back to Detroit. I'll leave it at that."
The decision comes after a wave of public pressure, where a national campaign led by Environmental Action and Forecast the Facts gathered 20,000 signatures online, demanding GM pull their support.
This is a huge victory and we couldn't have done it without you. When we started a campaign asking GM to stop funding the Heartland Institute, we expected it would take a while to get the attention of the multi-billion dollar auto maker. But the quick reversal by a major Fortune 500 company is proof that when dedicated citizens get together -- we can make a difference.
