Sec. Salazer signed off on Cape Wind. Woo hoo! Kudos to the thousands of people who've put their time into this effort.

To wind power, that is. Last week, an offshore oil rig exploded, sunk into the Gulf of Mexico, and is currently leaking 42,000 gallons of oil a day. This is a grisly reminded that the myth of clean and safe offshore oil drilling is just that, a myth.

There was recently an explosion on an oil rig off the coast of Louisiana that killed seven, and have left another eleven missing, according to the New York Times.

Based on yesterday's blog, I wrote up an action alert for our folks on the issue -- keep reading to learn a little more, and to see how to send an email to the Office of Surface Mining, the folks working on the new MTR regs.

It's with great sorrow that I'm reading the news about the mining accident in West Virginia that has taken 25 lives so far. All of our thoughts and prayers are going out to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy.

Everyone's all into nuclear power these days, and it's scaring the heck out of me. I keep hearing, 'but it's so much safer now' and that it's the future of the energy portfolio in the United States.

I thought about doing a funny little April Fool's thing, but the sad truth is that I'm too outraged by yesterday's announcement by the Obama Administration that they're opening up a bunch of new coastline to offshore drilling.
