For the July 4th weekend, I went camping and hiking down in the Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico. I was a little shocked to see a healthy sized mine, run by Chevron, smack dab in the middle of the forest.

I've been poking around looking at all the horrific info on the Gulf oil spill. We made a counter to track a rough approximation of how much oil has been dumped into the Gulf as a result of the accident, which is good, but I found a great map online that everyone should check out.

I know we've all watched in horror the footage of the disaster in the Gulf. We've seen the dead wildlife, we've seen the clouds of oil, we've seen the pictures of empty docks and restaurants as the Gulf coast residents try to figure out 'what next'.

In a lovely show of either short sightedness or vested interest, Federal Judge Martin Feldman reversed the Obama administration's moratorium on current and planned deepwater drilling in the Gulf and Pacific ocean.
