Sometimes it's a little challenging, in our complex society, to see situations in purely black and white standards. Banks are a great example. Right now, the financial industry has gone through a lot of scrutiny, and has had their share of problems.

News coverage from the gulf says the capped well is holding, and visible oil in the gulf has all but disappeared. But you and I — and luckily a few political leaders — know that our oil problems are all but finished. The Gulf Spill was a devastating symptom of our country's addiction to oil. And to avoid more spills, more global warming pollution, and more air pollution; we need to break our addition to oil.

Wow, just wow. BP has hinted they don't want to give up their drilling rights to the well they just capped, and in fact, might like to drill again.

BP, NOAA, and the Obama Administration are all a-flutter about the closing of the well. And while that's technically a good thing, I have a hard time celebrating what is now being realized as "the world's largest accidental release of oil ever into marine waters".

So, BP is talking about having the well stopped for good this week, and as no new oil has pumped into the gulf for a couple weeks, it would seem that everyone is quick to declare, 'crisis over'.

Imagine if your neighbor's house caught fire, and set fire to you whole block, burned down twenty houses and killed nearly a dozen people. Now imagine finding out you neighbor had taken the battery out of his fire alarms because he was tired of the alarm going off every time he burned his fish sticks in the oven

Well, one good thing to come out of the massive BP disaster in the Gulf has been that people are paying a little more attention to offshore drilling issues.
