Well, thank goodness we're done with THAT, then
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-08-04

BP, NOAA, and the Obama Administration are all a-flutter about the closing of the well. And while that's technically a good thing, I have a hard time celebrating what is now being realized as "the world's largest accidental release of oil ever into marine waters".

The truth is - as I pointed out a couple days ago - this disaster is going to be with us for awhile, in ways we can't even understand right now.

So while Carol Browner is talking about how 75% of the oil has been removed, we need to think ahead. For instance, what happens when an ecosystem gets gunked up for three months in prime mating season? Massive decrease in population of sea going species.

And that's just the start. The choking off of the food supply for all this time will surely come back and bite us on our collective butts.

But hey, at least we stopped it at 200 million gallons.
