Via Talking Points Memo, the AP reports that corporate giant General Electric has invested heavily (to the tune of $15 billion) in the oil and gas practice known as fracking.This should tell us everything we need to know about whether fracking can be considered "clean" or "natural."

Feds Delay Nationwide Delisting of Wolves

Our collective howling has gotten action. The US Fish and Wildlife Service, under the management of new Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, announced in a recent court filing that its plan to open wolf hunting in the lower 48 states is on hold, indefinitely.

Turn up the heat on climate Denial this weekend

You don't have to be a genius to know that global warming is a serious problem. That's probably why 97 percent of peer reviewed scientific papers on the topic agree that global warming is real, caused by humans, and needs urgent attention from our government.

Some people in Congress just don't want to get it, however, and unfortunately those people are controlling the debate right now. For example, Rep. Lamar Smith, the chairman of the House Science committee.

Christie Joins Tin Foil Hat Brigade

Someone needs to tell New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie that tin foil hats don't prevent hurricanes.
 
They do, however, make a good shield to prevent climate science from entering the brain, which is why Christie and so many other—mostly Republican—lawmakers wear them. The truth hurts.

The Koch brothers got more bad news over the weekend as the Missouri legislature joined the growing list of states to reject the Koch's proposal to weaken or eliminate state standards requiring the use of renewable energy sources.
 
Already Kansas, North Carolina, Colorado and New York have voted to keep or -- in the case of Colorado -- strengthen their renewable energy standards. However, there are proposals in another dozen states still being considered, so now is not the time to relax. Click here to sign our petition telling state lawmakers across the nation that Americans support clean, green energy and don't want states to cave to the wishes of the fossil fuel industry.

Loggers Want to Make Tree-sitting a Felony

Logging corporations in Oregon are trying to kick environmentalists out of their trees by getting the state to make it a felony to protest logging by tree-sitting and to allow companies to sue protesters for financial damages caused by such protests.
 
In April, Oregon's House passed two bills that would allow police to charge tree sitters and non-violent protesters with felonies that carry mandatory minimum sentences upon conviction. A first offense would be a felony with a mandatory minimum sentence of 13 months. A second offense would garner a $25,000 fine and five years in prison. Another bill would allow loggers to sue protesters for up to $10,000 in lost income.

They didn't ask for your voice, but they need to hear it. 
 
Congress is finally holding hearings about natural gas drilling, and instead of inviting the people who live near fracking wells, Congress has decided only to listen to the polluters, drillers and frackers. That's right -- they're having a hearing on fracking, but the fracktivists fighting the poison and pollution caused by this dangerous drilling practice aren't invited.

GOP Takes Ball and Goes Home

As with so many issues, Congressional Republicans are fighting Obama's nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency by using committee rules to slow down the process. Essentially unable to stop action that would protect the planet but hurt their Big Oil and King Coal pay-masters, GOP senators have staged a boycott of, well, governing -- rather than allow proven environmental champion Gina McCarthy so much as a chance to tackle big issues like pollution and global warming.
