On Friday, it was announced the federal government would be doing a full investigation into the explosion on a drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico. 

This is good, I suppose, except for the fact that at most this explosion reinforces the idea that we need a six-month moratorium. 

We don't need a six month moratorium on offshore oil drilling. We need a moratorium on oil drilling. And until our nation wakes up to realize this fact, we'll continue to have explosions. 

Thankfully, this most recent explosion wasn't on the same scale as the Horizon deepwater disaster. But how long until it is? When will our luck run out? 

Unless the answer is never, we need a permanent ban on offshore oil drilling, or we'll see another, and another, and another spill.
