Six Month Moratorium
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-06-07

Well there's some news at least from the Obama administration regarding the long term ramifications of the BP oil spill. They have initiated a six moratorium on new deepwater drilling in the Gulf.

It would seem -- as with most middle of the road strategies -- that nobody is really all that happy about this move.

You see, there are loads of reports coming out that the people in the gulf are unhappy because, well, oil drilling brings money in. Workers stay in hotels, eat in restaurants, etc. No oil drilling, no workers, no service industry.

Beyond that, people who believe new offshore drilling just needs to be banned permanently, as it was for decades before President Bush, are upset that President Obama is going for a six month moratorium, in the Gulf as opposed to a full on ban.

And here-in-lies the problems with President Obama's approach to environmental issues. He doesn't seem to want to embrace any of them.

He wants to placate everybody, which in the end makes nobody happy, and worst, solved no real problems.
