Not really something you want to be good at
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-01-27

Last weekend, half a million gallons of oil spilled into the Sabine-Naches waterway in Texas when a tug and a tanker collied.

Cleanup workers were quick to the scene and were able to contain the spill, cleaning up a good portion of it quickly. But is this what we as a nation want to be good at -- cleaning up toxic spills quickly?

As long as we're drilling for oil off our coasts, oil will continue to be dumped into our waterways. While this time we were lucky, we won't always be. That's why we're calling on President Obama to ban any new offshore drilling this year.

Click here to let the President know you want a ban on offshore drilling.

Every couple of years, a new cry comes up from the oil companies that they need greater and greater access to oil fields off our nation's coasts -- and each time they insist it's a safe act.

Yet time and again, we see oil rigs burst pipes, we see tankers getting into accidents, and we see millions upon millions of gallons of oil dumped into our waterways, often destroying wildlife, and their habitat.

It's time to stop the lies by instituting a ban on new offshore drilling -- a move President Obama could take if so inclined. So please join me in calling on him to take this important step for the environment.
