Hurrah! It's Getting Closer to Being Over
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-07-15

Well, it appears a mere three months into the massive environmental catastrophe that is the Horizon Rig disaster, BP has temporarily stopped the gushing oil.

I'm happy. I'm pushing aside all of the feelings of anger and sorrow to be just happy for a minute, that at least right now, the oil has stopped gushing.

It's a temporary measure, there's still so much work to be done, and we're entering the dangerous time where people are starting to pay attention to other things.

The truth is that as horrible as the gushing oil has been, there's literally years of work to be done to clean up the Gulf of Mexico. And as everyone and their brother is quick to point out, this is a very temporary measure, and so on.

Still, I can't help but point out the humor in the NY Times reporting BP Senior Vice President Kent Wells (with a last name of 'Wells' what else could he do but oil?) saying, "I am very excited that there's no oil in the Gulf of Mexico".

I think that's a little premature and optimistic there Kent.
