The NY Times reported today that the Obama Administration budget includes a massive loan guarantee to the nuclear industry. This loan program will guarantee up to $54 billion for the nuclear industry to build seven to ten new reactors.

At the same time, the budget both denies funding for the Yucaa mountain waste site (which is good -- we shouldn't be trucking tons of nuclear waste on American's highways), but also doesn't address the waste issue in any other way.

This is, of course, what we've been afraid of with the U.S. finally embracing the reality of global warming -- that the nuclear industry would convince us they're the appropriate solution to the problem.

While they do present a CO2-free option, it's truly out of the frying pan and into the massive nuclear meltdown, which I believe is a good thing to avoid.
