Good News From Mining Country
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-04-16
Some great news today about the Spruce No. 1 surface mine in West Virginia. Turns out the EPA is proposing to veto the Clean Water Permit issues by the Corps of Engineers that allowed the mine to move forward. According to them, the mine would fill more than 7 miles of headwater streams and affect more than 2,000 acres of forest, so they're proposing a veto of the permit. There's a good update on it over at the NY Times, and honestly I'm pretty excited to get this news. |
