Eight Million Barrels A Day
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-08-10
News coverage from the gulf says the capped well is holding, and visible oil in the gulf has all but disappeared. But you and I — and luckily a few political leaders — know that our oil problems are all but finished. The Gulf Spill was a devastating symptom of our country's addiction to oil. And to avoid more spills, more global warming pollution, and more air pollution; we need to break our addition to oil. Sen. Merkley has introduced a bill to cut America’s consumption of oil by eight million barrels per day by 2030 - that’s roughly four times as much oil as spewed out of BP’s Deepwater Horizon rig. Take a minute right now and send your senators an e-mail asking them to support this bill, and get it passed. Imagine that. Using eight million barrels less every day would allow us to stop offshore oil drilling, and we could stop importing oil from politically unstable countries. Beyond that, burning less oil means a reduction in our nation's CO2 emissions, and a commitment to clean energy. So please, take a minute right now, and ask your senators to take this important stand. And after you take action, please take the next step and invite your friends and family to take part in the effort by forwarding them this message. |
