Change I Believed In
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-01-29

Back during the 2008 election, I used to tease my friend and roomate -- what was an ardent Obama supporter -- that then-candidate-Barack's stances on nuclear power and clean coal were not exactly 'change' but were more 'status quo'.

At the same time, he spoke a good game on global warming, he had a lot to say about keeping the moratorium on offshore drilling. He was an outspoken critic of Bush's science censorship at EPA, and in general, everyone agreed he'd be an improvement over President Bush. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

So I was doubly shocked this week to hear now-president Obama not just renew his call for nukes and clean coal, but to encourage looking at new offshore drilling sites.

And, as if that weren't bad/stupid enough, there're reports from the Forest Service that the Obama administration is -- wait for it -- gagging them in talking to the press, just like President Bush did with the EPA & NASA.

WHAAAAT?

Check out the press release from Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility for more on that issue.

In the meantime, we'll be setting up actions to the White House, etc. etc., and scratching our heads wondering how, exactly, this has been the change we were looking for.
