BP oil spill -- some updates
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2010-05-04

Hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil are pumping into the Gulf every day now, and we're seeing some interesting things coming out.

First of all, BP is vowing to pay all 'necessary and appropriate' costs associated with the spill. Which makes sense, given the beating Exxon has taken in the press over their hand wrangling on the Valdez spill costs.

Of course it remains to be seen how that plays out over time.

Then there's an article in the NY Times that questions just how bad the spill is, which frankly, seems a little bit silly since Rush Limbaugh's all over the place talking about how the spill is natural and everything will be fine.

Then, Gov. Schwarzenegger has reversed his support for increasing offshore drilling, but is using it as a means to open up inland waterways for oil drilling, so that's one's a bit of a wash.

The bottom line, however, and what not a lot of people are really saying is that we need to be done with oil if we want to be done with oil spills. That's the only safe and sane option.
